Wieden + Kennedy has announced that Global Interactive Executive Creative Director Iain Tait will be leaving the agency. Mr. Tait will be moving to Google Creative Lab, where he will serve as executive creative director. "The opportunity to work at Google Creative Lab alongside some of the brightest scientists and inventors in the world was something my inner nerd just couldn't turn down," said Mr. Tait in a statement.
While at Wieden, Mr. Tait was a key figure in realizing the award-winning Old Spice Response campaign. Just last December, he was named one of Wieden & Kennedy's 11 partners, along with fellow Portland colleagues ECD Mark Fitzloff and Managing Director Tom Blessington, as well as London Managing Director Neil Christie. Dan Wieden had personally recruited Mr. Tait in 2010 to work at the agency's highest level and to help push the boundaries of Wieden's interactive work for clients such as Levi's, Coke and Nike.
"I hate it, and I am in denial, but yes, he is leaving us to join Google Creative Lab to be in touch with his inner geek and work on the product side," said Dan Wieden, cofounder and global executive creative director of Wieden+Kennedy in an agency statement. "But I graciously thank him for the two years of amazing insights, creative thinking and digital transformation that he brought to W+K. He will be missed, but I am confident that the digital evolution that we have undergone over the last five years is a strong foundation for our continued growth."
Before joining Wieden, Mr. Tait co-founded London digital shop Poke, home to celebrated campaigns for Orange as well as digital innovations such as Albion's Baker Tweet.
Wieden has begun a search for Mr. Tait's replacement. His final day at the agency will be May 15. See Mr. Tait speak at CAT London in 2010.
