Months after The Martin Agency lost its chief creative officer, John Norman, the shop has announced that it has a new one: executive creative director Joe Alexander, who just got promoted to lead creative at the Richmond, Va.-based agency.
Former CCO and now agency president Mike Hughes said in a statement that Alexander "has been a world-class creative leader for our company for years," adding that it was his passion, unbridled drive and ability to mentor creative talent that make him the "right guy for this critically important job."
Alexander, who has basically been helming creative output at the agency since Norman left for TBWA/Chiat/Day, Los Angeles in July, has been at The Martin Agency since 1991. He joined the agency as a writer, and was creative lead on the shop's PING account for 17 years. He also played major roles in the agency's campaigns for Walmart, UPS, American Cancer Society and JFK Library. Before joining The Martin Agency, Alexander worked at TBWA/Chiat/Day.
Most recently, Alexander was creative director on "Clouds Over Cuba," an interactive documentary from the JFK Library that launched last week, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Three years ago, he oversaw the highly-decorated "We Choose The Moon" campaign for the same client, recreating the Apollo 11 moon landing.
