Tony Granger to join Y&R

Granger, currently the ECD at Saatchi/New York, will be joining the agency at the start of next year. The South African-born CD is known as an agency Midas, bringing to life flagging creative departments of agencies he's touched. He previously turned sleepy Bozell into an awards magnet, and the renaissance at Saatchi is no industry secret—the shop won this year's coveted "Agency of the Year" award at Cannes and has turned out lauded work for Folgers, P&G and has overhauled once sleepy brands like JCPenney and Wendy's.
"We heard just about an hour ago," says an anonymous Y&R staffer. "I'm shocked we went after, and got, someone of his talent and caliber. It's the shot of adrenaline we've needed."
Early last month, Granger's former creative lieutenants Jan Jacobs and Leo Premutico also left Saatchi to start their own WPP-backed outfit, Johannes Leonardo. Jacobs and Premutico had been instrumental to Granger's past turnarounds—Jacobs had been with Granger at Bozell, and he and Premutico teamed under him at Saatchi/London before following him to New York.
Representatives at Saatchi/New York declined comment on Granger's departure.
