Pharrell, Beckham and Rita Ora Question Idea of 'Superstar' in Global Adidas Campaign

Stylish Black and White Film and Print Ads Promote Relaunch of Superstar Shoe

What better way for Adidas to promote its Originals Superstar shoe than getting superstars to talk about superstardom? The brand rounded up David Beckham, Pharrell Williams, Rita Ora and basketball player Damian Lillard to share their thoughts on what being a superstar means in this stylish 90-second black and white film, from Johannes Leonardo and Swiss director Karim Huu Do of Caviar. In the film, the stars question what superstardom is -- is it having a stylist, having everyone know you by your first name, people reading about what you had for breakfast? As you've probably guessed, the answer's no. The campaign also features print ads of the celebrities redefining the idea of "superstar."

"We wanted to be authentic to the notion of superstar and to do that we had to subvert the perception of it," with the idea being that real stars work for an audience of one -- themselves, Johannes Leonardo co-founder Leo Premutico told AdAge. "It's easy these days to equate superstardom with fame and the amount of view counts, but the most important creative quality is courage."
