Al Gore and WPP Agencies Ask Young Adults to Advocate for the Environment

Campaign Culminates at Two UN Summits

A group of eight WPP agencies have banded together to launch a multimedia campaign for Al Gore and the Climate Reality Project in an effort to prompt global leaders to reduce carbon emissions in the days leading up to the U.N. Climate Summit on September 23.

The effort poses the questions "Why? Why not?" alongside striking images of youth most likely to be affected by climate change juxtaposed with stark environmental scenes. Each ad ultimately presents an issue and offers what appears to be a pretty obvious solution. The campaign includes a video message from Al Gore himself.

GPY&R Sydney took the lead on the creative, joined by other WPP shops JWT, Maxus, the Futures Company, PPR Australia; the Glover Park group, Blue State Digital, and affiliate media company VICE.

From now through September 8, teens all over the world are encouraged to speak up for their generation with videos outlining their own 'Why' and 'Why not?' questions to world leaders. The six best submissions will win a flight to New York to attend the Climate Summit next month be part of a presentation to them. The campaign will continue through December 2015 when the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's 21st Conference will be taking place.
