Bill Nighy Narrates a Powerful Film About Dementia That Urges People to Unite

U.K. Spot Also References Brexit

A voiceover by "Love, Actually" actor Bill Nighy adds extra power to a new campaign from the U.K's Alzheimer's Society that launched simultaneously on two TV channels this week.

The spot urges people to "forget" about their differences, whether about political allegiance, which sports team they support, whether they share the same taste or cultural values. Scenes include two soccer fans who support opposing teams sizing each other up outside a pub, an elderly man coming face to face with a youth in a housing project and, in a reference to Brexit, a Remain voter squaring up to a Leave supporter. Although all situations begin threateningly, the pair begin to smile as they put their beliefs aside and unite to fight dementia -- which, says Nighy, doesn't care about any of these things.

The theme is similar to that of an ad recently put out by Heineken, which brought people of differing opinions together to assemble furniture and build a bar.

The ad, by McCann, London, aired on both Channel 4 and ITV at 8:55 in the evening as part of its message about unity. It was directed by Daniel Barber of Knucklehead and features an original score by Will Gregory of Goldfrapp.
