Skol Aims to Create A Musical Map of Brazil With Mobile App Launch

Brazilian Beer Gets in on Music Geo-Tagging Trend

Brazilian beer brand Skol has developed Soundspot, a mobile app that lets users tag music tracks to match them to specific places they go. Created by F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi, the free app is aimed at "sharing and creating sound identities for locations." Users simply drop a song on a specific place on the map and anyone with the app can listen to it. They can choose from over 30 million songs from Deezer's library.

While the idea of geo-tagging music has been around for a while (other apps include Herd.fm, Soundtracked and SuperGlued), this is the first time we've heard of a brand getting in on the act. Skol clearly aims to target a young and fashionable audience, forming partnerships with Brazilian music musicians Karol Conka, Dj Marky and Kondzilla to launch the app. They, along with several other influencers, including graffiti artists, skaters and DJs, are tagging songs to their favorite places in the country.
