Female Directors Lift the Lid on Sexist Comments on a Revealing Tumblr

Prejudice and Chauvinism Are Still Rife

Last month, our report on female directors revealed some of the pressures on women working in film-making; among them, sexist crews, prejudice about talent and lack of role models.

Now, an anonymous Tumblr is lifting the lid on some more stories from women directors working in Hollywood and elsewhere. Shi*t People Say to Female Directors asks women to submit their own stories, quotes and anecdotes, and what's up there so far makes it clear that good old-fashioned sexism is still rife in the film industry. Examples include a director and producer being told "it's good for the crew to have a pretty girl around" and the female director who, when asking her male producer "what's next after this project?" was told, "I think we should f***."
