A Chinese ultra-marathon runner plans to finish 100 marathons in 100 days wearing shoes from Anta, China's biggest local sportswear brand. The goal is a Guinness World Record.
Chen Penbin, who is running to support Beijing's bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics, was a fisherman in a Chinese village before becoming a star who finished ultra-marathons on all seven continents. The campaign from Lowe China, "Run With Me," encourages people from all walks of life to try the sport.
"Chen is an Anta runner and you can also be one," said Anta Sports Products Ltd.'s Senior Director Major Zhu in a news release.
Mr. Chen ran his first marathon Thursday and will continue through July 10 wearing Anta's Challenge100 running shoes. He hopes to break a record held by Japan's Akinori Kusuda, who ran 52 marathons on consecutive days in 2009.
Lowe China's campaign includes 15-second TV commercials, a three-minute online video, social media and in-store activations.
