Martini is getting an unusual soccer-themed boost in the Netherlands in a multimedia campaign that's "all about adding style to soccer and especially to the World Championship in Germany this year," says writer Wilbert Leering at Dutch agency Doorn & Roos. "Usually, soccer fans are a bit working class and loud and obscene; we thought is was time to give soccer a little bit of Martini style. Of course, it's all tongue-in-cheek and we really took it over the top." A pair of rising Dutch fashion designers, Daryl van Wouw (www.darylvanwouw.com) and Jan Taminiau (www.jantaminiau.com), were commissioned to design soccer scarfs, offered as a nifty bonus with the vermouth. Leering calls van Wouw "very street," and Taminiau "very couturish." (Van Wouw's scarf, seen in detail in the PDF, is also very bizarre.) See www.martini.nl for more of the campaign, which is backed online by a "loungy-electro remix of a famous Dutch soccer anthem," says Leering. Photography by Fritz Kok (www.fritzkok.com), and, speaking of very bizarre, don't miss Kok's fabulous online Exhibition portfolio.
