BBDO has unveiled a new campaign encouraging more places, buildings and monuments to be named after women.
President and CEO of BBDO Worldwide Andrew Robertson, unveiled the "Put Her on the Map" campaign at the Makers 2017 Conference for women last week, together with Amy Elaine Wakeland, the First Lady of Los Angeles.
The initiative is being promoted via a video by BBDO New York, featuring little girls discussing what they want to be when they grow up, makes the point that while many less significant objects are named after women (a Lazy Susan, the "Rachel" haircut, "Mary Jane" shoes), most monuments, streets and buildings are named for men. The campaign is also promoting the #putheronthemap hashtag to encourage people to share the video and spread the word.
"When successful women are not visible in our world, there is no precedent for female potential," said Mr. Robertson. "By changing the map, cities and companies can change the face of our communities and inspire future female leaders."
