Berg: Connbox

The future of videophone?

It seems design studio Berg, creator of the ingenious Little Printer, has been working on the future of video phoning with Google. Back in 2011 it started working with Google Creative Labs on Connbox, a home videophone prototype project designed to showcase Google's voice and video services. Presumably a competitor to the likes of Skype, the Connbox, acts as a virtual window that lets users see and interact with others. According to The Verge, the project is on hiatus, but the final prototype included a pair of screens, one for the user, one for the person on the other side, that could display video or have a virtual "screen" drawn over them.
