BP is promoting its partnership with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in the countdown to the Rio 2016 Games with a spot featuring its German ambassador and world champion sprinter David Behre.
The film focuses on Behre's drive and determination following an accident involving a train in 2007 leading to surgeons having to amputate his lower legs, and the ad opens with the whistle of a freight train. Then, he explains how in the days after his accident, "I decided how to live," as we see him working out furiously and training. In the final, poignant frames, we see Behre outrunning a freight train. The scene was done in CGI by VFX House Unit Media; Stewart Sugg of Psona Films directed the spot.
The wider campaign aims to show how "inner energy" can lead people to achieve the most remarkable things. More content for the series will break in the run-up to the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics this summer. Each film features a different athlete.
