Nike's Jordan division is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Air Jordan shoe with the release of the Air Jordan XX and an elaborate head-to-toe digital tattoo job on Michael Jordan himself. In a series of print and outdoor ads shot by famed sports photog Walter Iooss (www.walteriooss.com), Jordan is coated with the same "laser-etched tapestry of icons," as Wieden + Kennedy/N.Y. calls it, seen on the new shoe (see the PDF), which represent memorable moments from His Ultimate Sports Worship's life and career. Included in this new henna-heavy look is an Iooss update of the well-known "Wingspan" poster, originally shot by Gary Nolton. Interestingly, the AJXX, as it's known at www.jumpman23.com, seems to be exactly the sort of footwear that would be suitable for prancing in a Broadway musical like Evita, which is what Dave Schiff of Crispin Porter + Bogusky was railing against a few PrintCritics ago, as part of Maxim's new anti-metrosexual onslaught. But who can doubt that, if he wanted to, MJ could outplay Madonna in the title role?
