The Flip-Disc Display System is the latest innovation from New York interactive agency Breakfast (whose past projects include smart signpost Points, Verbalizer and the Instaprint Photo Booth, now known as Luster.)
Marketed as a ready-to-use kinetic display, the Flip-Disc Display System is a modular system of Flip-Disc panels that can be customized and configured in a variety of ways. As Breakfast's explainer video shows, it's a new take on the original "Flip Disc' technology, now half a century old. The displays are made up of thousands of small plastic discs which flip between two colored sides at close to 30 frames per second.
The idea is that straight out of the box, the system can easily display images, video, and text, while also featuring a 3D time-of-flight camera which lets those in front of the screen see and hear their actions play out via thousands of small flipping pieces of plastic -- as seen in the video here with Creativity's logo.
Breakfast claims the Flip-Disc Display System will save users time and money, as opposed to using expensive bespoke system, making purchasing and utilizing a kinetic display as "easy as buying a new refrigerator."
