Sept. 17 was the California Coastal Commission's annual volunteer-driven California Coastal Cleanup Day, and this year, for the first time, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners made posters to publicize the event. "Making the creatures feel real was key in getting people to pay attention," says AD Paul Foulkes. "The imagery had to be striking, it had to make people look twice. The posters and images are reminiscent of classic nature postcards and Audubon paintings, but on closer inspection, they're a bit more twisted. They've been getting a lot of attention throughout California, and feedback from the various environmental groups that post them has been very positive." We bet these'll clean up at awards shows, too. See www.coastforyou.org for more on the don't-litter-the-littoral effort.
