TV Genres Do Battle in Miniature

Canal+ compares television content with a chef's ingredients to demonstrate that only the best will do, in a new spot by BETC Paris.

Set in a busy restaurant kitchen, we see cooks preparing an unusual meal with very televisual ingredients and some stunning visual effects.

Eggs are broken to reveal battling mini dinosaurs; thousands of tiny footballers are poured out of a tin; cartoon character are chopped and added to a pan; cars chase each other across the kitchen worktop before being grated into a bowl; and medieval figures squirm as a chef sharpens his knife.

The different ingredients showcase the variety of TV genres available on Canal+ and its sister channel, CanalSat, which are being merged and relaunched as a single destination, Canal. BETC's message is, "Great channels make great TV."

The spot was directed by Antoine Bardou-Jacquet who also directed Honda's famous "Cog" spot for Wieden & Kennedy London in 2003. More recently he directed Kit Harington (Jon Snow from "Game of Thrones") in Crispin Porter & Bogusky's Infiniti spot.

Canal+ and BETC Paris have a long history of creating memorable advertising, most famously "The Bear," which won the 2012 Cannes Craft Grand Prix.
