Miserable Urban Bears Reconnect With Nature in This Uplifting Ad

Just the Thing for the January Blues

Editor's Pick

If the first working day of January has filled you with gloom, have a watch of this uplifting spot from U.K. holiday park firm Center Parcs. In it, a family of bears is transposed to a modern urban environment. Mama Bear works in an office and commutes on the subway, the baby bears are addicted to screens, and Papa Bear just looks miserable as he serves and eats a lonely dinner by himself at the table.

However, a trip away to the forest is just the remedy, as the headphones come off, the bears look up at the sky and finally reconnect with nature -- and each other. There's no sign of a holiday park, and the bears don't leap onto bikes or try out the water slides, but Center Parcs' logo at the end is a discreet reminder of the point of this sweet film. It's set to a well-chosen soundtrack, a soulful cover of Cyndi Lauper's True Colors, which is sung by Ben Madeley, and is being released by Universal Music on iTunes.

London agency Brothers & Sisters created the film, and Ben Liam Jones directed the ad through Mustard, with Electric Theatre Collective responsible for the excellent CGI animation. Twenty-five animators spent 10,450 hours over three months on the production, using live footage of professional actors to create the bears. See how it was done in this Making Of film.
