According to this ad from Chevrolet promoting its tie-up with Disney's upcoming film "Tomorrowland," based on the theme park's futuristic neighborhood, the car of the future is the 2016 Chevy Volt. The ad, conceived out of CAA Marketing in collaboration with Chevy's agency Commonwealth, depicts a design lab in the heart of Tomorrowland. There, we see an animation of an ever-evolving car going down the production line. As it morphs, we see actual sketches and ideas of past Chevy concept vehicles: the Firebird III, an extravagant prototype with seven wings and tail fins that debuted at the 1959 Motorama; the Firebird IV, an experimental car built for the 1964 World's Fair in New York; the Astro II prototype, unveiled at the 1968 New York Auto Show; the jet aircraft-like 1969 Astro III; and the 1987 Express "whisper-quiet" concept car. The car finally settles into its final form -- as the 2016 Volt, which actually has features inspired by those previous concept ideas, from its quiet engine to its aerodynamic shape.

Chevrolet Marketing U.S. VP Paul Edwards said in a statement, "This animation reveals how the freedom of imagination helps find new roads in the present day as demonstrated in the next-generation Chevrolet Volt, "the car of tomorrow, today."

The ad was directed by Edouard Salier, the director behind one of Coca-Cola's ambitious World Cup ads and, among other things, the controversial 2005 short film that imagined, "What if terrorist acts came down to motives of the flesh?"
