Turn Your Selfie Into A Dali Painting

Goodby Silverstein Installation Puts Visitor Portraits into Original Artwork

Editor's Pick

When it comes to creativity, the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, must be something of a dream client -- and agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners has certainly done it justice. Earlier this year it created an iPhone staring contest for the Museum -- and now, it goes a step further with an installation that integrates visitors' selfies with actual art in the gallery.

The installation is inspired by Dalí's 1976 painting "Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea Which at Twenty Meters Becomes the Portrait of Abraham Lincoln (Homage to Rothko)," which famously proved that 121 pixels was the minimum pixilation at which the brain is able to identify a particular human face.

From now until October, a photo kiosk at the Museum will turn visitors' selfie images into pixelated replications of the original artwork and project these new images alongside the original canvas. A corresponding mobile website allows virtual visitors to submit their photos and become part of the artwork as well. A camera captures a GIF transformation of both the new image and the original painting side by side and either emails or tweets the visitor a link to download the image.
