Diesel's second ad in its "Go With the Flaw" campaign about flawed beauty is a dark, humorous tale of two lovers whose imperfections come back to haunt them.
The spot, once again directed by Francois Rousselet for Publicis Italy, starts with the tale of a cute young guy who's embarrassed by his big ears. Stared at as he walks down the street, and empathizing with a flappy-eared elephant, he decides to correct them with surgery. Now with small ears, he hooks up with a sexy girl in a launderette (is this an ironic nod to Levi's, we wonder?) and the two begin a torrid romance. Next, she's pregnant and we see her giving birth--but there's a surprise outcome, and we see another side to the story in flashback.
The message of the film, set to "What's a Matter Baby" by the Small Faces, is that you can't hide your flaws, so why not embrace them? It promotes Diesel's Spring/Summer 2018 collection.
The film, with VFX by MPC, also includes subtle clues that link back to a wider campaign which celebrates the beauty in world's flaws. These include an Instagram profile that revels in unmatched socks (@wantedsocks), the website of a fictitious restaurant called Bluffet (bluffet.com) featuring recipes meant to fuel "flawed" behavior and a flawed travel agency's website, where anyone can search and book, legitimate flights with the largest possible number of layovers.
