Blind Children Communicate Using Braille Building Bricks

A Brazilian foundation for the blind has teamed up with an ad agency to create an innovative new product for blind kids.

Sao Paulo agency Lew'LaraTBWA created Braille Bricks, a braille alphabet developed using "classic toy building bricks" (aka Lego), for the Dorina Nowill Foundation for the Blind. As explained in the short documentary seen here, the bricks were adapted with the letters of the braille alphabet; the entire initiative, from the idea to the manufacture, took approximately a year. The bricks can help blind kids in schools but are also a useful tool in helping sighted people to communicate with them.

The agency is now lobbying for the bricks to be produced on a global scale, and has made the project available for free on the Creative Commons website, so any manufacturer can carry it out. It's also posting the video on social networks with the hashtag #BrailleBricksForAll.
