In the wake of "selfiegate" at Nelson Mandela's funeral, here's another way to turn the vain and selfish medium of the selfie into something more altruistic. Shortly after Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines, Manila agency BBDO Guerrero came up with the #unselfie, using the medium to raise awareness of donations to UNICEF by taking a faceless photo of yourself holding up the charity's details.
With a similar theme of using the selfie for good, Droga5 Europe has this week launched the #selflessselfie t-shirt. The idea is that people simply go to the site (created by B-Reel for Droga5), buy a cotton t-shirt for 20 pounds with the #selflessselfie logo on it, and all proceeds go to the charity ActionAid and its ongoing Typhoon Appeal in the Philippines. Then, take a selfie wearing the shirt and post on social media spread awareness.
