Electrolux recently named the winner of its annual Design Lab competition, designer Peter Alwin's The Snail. Inspired by its namesake, the concept device uses micro-induction to heat up any pot or vessel it's attached to, eliminating the need for a stovetop or oven.

This year's competition invited undergrads and grads to submit design ideas for home appliances that addressed shrinking domestic spaces, under the theme "The 2nd Space Age." Alwin was awarded €5,000 and a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design center. Check out the other Electrolux finalists here.
