The world's biggest choir

Editor's Pick

Composer Eric Whitacre leads 2052 singers in 58 countries in a virtual choir singing his composition Sleep.

Whitacre started orchestrating virtual choirs in 2009 after seeing a fan's YouTube video of herself singing Sleep. He originally solicited fans to upload videos of themselves singing the track and cut together a video of the resulting contributions. Next, he released a video of himself conducting his Lux Aurumque and asked fans to sing along. The resulting video, which featured 185 voices, was viewed over two million times on YouTube.

With this latest rendition of Sleep, the composer claims to have assembled the largest virtual choir in history.

Whitacre previewed the effort and talked about his work during a TED talk in March.
