You may have always dreamed of having your name in lights, but now your political opinions could be in lights too - in no less than Times Square, with Facebook's new 2012 Matters political app.

Facebook developed 2012 Matters during a 24-hour 'hackathon' together with R/GA. From this week, Facebook users will be invited to like the page, and share their opinions on everything from the economy to the environment in the run up to the 2012 elections, with the focus on ranking the three areas most important to them. If they opt in, their views, together with their Facebook profile photos, will be broadcast on a Thomson Reuters billboard in Times Square. Meanwhile a Nasdaq digital billboard will display the issues that are most important to users, state by state.
