Back in the day, Facebook users were able to send "gifts" -- pictures of hearts, flowers or teddy bears -- to friends on the social network. Now, the company is turning gifts into a real, tangible, business. It is rolling out a new program that lets you pick a gift to send to a friend. The friend receives a notification saying they've got a gift, puts in their address and gets the gift in the mail. No word yet on what kind of gifts are available, but the promo video features a teddy bear pretty prominently. Read more about the effort on Adage.com.
The new offering reminds us a bit of the Get Well Soup Facebook campaign for Heinz, via We Are Social, which let users send their sick pals personalized cans of the brand's soup.
