Forever Wild: YouTube Interventions

Virals meet a wildlife plea.

Editor's Pick

To draw attention to the plight of rhinos in the wild, South African non-profit Forever Wild and Ogilvy Cape Town remixed popular YouTube videos with clips of rhinos being hunted for their horns and a serious message about the possibility of their extinction. The aim was to capture people's intention as they mindlessly surf the web, and persuade them to sign a petition to the US Congress.

The agency created over 60- "YouTube Interventions" - clips that mixed classic viral videos with a message about rhinos and reminded people how many hours they waste online. The clips had 300 000 YouTube views, over 11 000 Facebook likes, and petition signatures increased by almost 400%.
