Following the July launch of the public version of the GE WattStation, Fuseproject and GE have come out with the residential version of their new electric vehicle charger.

According to the Fuseproject blog, the hope is that the new home version will help to speed up residential adoption of plug-in EVs "by significantly decreasing time needed for vehicle charging and, using smart grid technology, allowing utility companies to manage the impact of electric vehicles on the local and regional grids."

The WattStation apparently accelerates EV charging time to as little as four to eight hours, down from the standard 12-18, and will be available commercially around the world in 2011.
