P.J. Pereira's Upcoming Book About West African Mythology Gets Gorgeous Trailer

Laundry Provides Animation Chops for Novel, Which Comes Out Nov. 25

Editor's Pick

Pereira & O'Dell chief creative P.J. Pereira has launched a rollicking new trailer for his upcoming book, "The Book of Silence," in the trilogy "Deuses de dois Mundos," which comes out Nov. 25. The book trailer was directed by Laundry's Anthony Liu, and via beautiful, dark animation, explores the myths that inspired Mr. Pereira's books.

The book, which was described on Twitter as "Harry Potter Meets 50 Shades of Grey," is a fantasy-literature tome that explores the mythological West African gods and goddesses that inspired the controversial voodoo-like faith widely practiced in Brazil today, a topic that's fascinated PJ for years, as he told us in his "Six Things You Didn't Know," earlier this year.

The trailer features a track by Brazilian singer Otto, percussionist Pupillo and guitarist Andreas Kisser. Gilberto Gil narrates.

Mr. Pereira has also negotated a movie deal with The Alchemists' Mauricio Motta, who bought the movie rights to the franchise in Brazil and the U.S. Disruption Entertainment, who produced "Pacific Rim" and The Bourne Trilogy will produce the film.
