Google's Second Impact Challenge Encourages Innovative Ideas

Google is encouraging people in the Bay Area to vote in its second Google Impact Challenge with some "clickable" digital posters.

With the Impact Challenge, Google.org, the company's philanthropic arm, is supporting and funding local nonprofits that the public vote for on the strength of their innovative ideas. The top 10 ideas this year include converting a liquor store into a community-based tutoring center, building a residential alternative to prison to break the poverty-to-prison cycle and providing millions of dollars of 0% interest loans to small businesses.

72andSunny designed interactive voting polls around local restaurants, coffee shops, bus station shelters and food trucks. Together with design studio Lab Partners, which provided the illustrations, the agency created "digital paper" posters that capture real-time votes in over 15 neighborhood spots. People can also vote online, until October 20.

The top four NGOs selected by public vote will receive $500,000 in grant funding, while the remaining six will get $250,000 each. Fifteen additional organizations will each receive $100,000, and all nonprofits will be receive support from Google volunteers and co-working space at local Impact Hubs. Winners will be annoucned October 21.
