Google Reinvents Retro Games for Chrome Users

New games use smartphones and laptops to replicate 20th century classics

Editor's Pick

Google has launched two new Google Chrome-based digital games based on classic retro games. Roll It uses a phone and a computer to bring a classic skeeball-type game to the browser. Chrome on the phone lets the user aim and roll the ball with a flick of their wrist, while Chrome on the computer renders the 3D graphics of the Roll It alley.

With Racer, an update of classic Hot Wheels, users can build slot-car-style race tracks which align across up to five mobile screens. When they touch their screen, their car speeds across all the phones and tablets.

Both experiments are synchronized using WebSockets, which allows data to be sent between multiple devices and servers at any time.
