A Brand Joins Google's List of Confectionary Code Names

Google Android is notoriously sweet-toothed. Its developers have code-named each iteration of the operating system after a delicious treat. It all started with version 1.5, dubbed Cupcake, then moved on to Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean and now -- for the first time ever -- a branded confection--KitKat!

Given the progression, it seems it was only a matter of time before the Silicon Valley marketer hooked up with a famous sweets maker. Head of Android development Sundar Pichai shared on Google+ this image, which shows a KitKat-shaped robot statue joining its predecessors in the Candy Land that is the lawn of Googleplex Building 44 , where Android is developed.

Nestle's KitKat also made the announcement on its Facebook page, featuring an image of a specially-branded Google edition of the candy bar. And even better, it decided to poke fun at Google competitor Apple, with a hilarious video that parodies that tech company's overtly serious new product announcements. Except instead of having Jonathan Ive blather on about tech specs, it gets a "Chief Breaks Officer" to hold forth on the values of a Kit Kat bar.
