Forget the scent of a new car. These days, the hottest unboxing smell is that of a new Apple product being opened. Scent marketing company Air Aroma was approached by the artistic group Greatest Hits to create that elusive fragrance for an upcoming art exhibition.
The scent that was created is a layered, complex thing, a combination of the plastic wrap that covers the box (mmm, plasticky) plus the ink printed on the cardboard box, the components inside the box (some more plastic and paper) and of course, topped off with that aluminium bouquet that comes from a laptop.
Air Aroma worked with fragrance suppliers in France to find samples of the essences of glue, plastic, rubber and paper, used those to create the fragrances and then blended them.
The fragrance will be diffused at Greatest Hits' exhibition in Melbourne, titled 'De Facto Standard,' on until May 12. It is not for purchase.
