Forget decorating the Christmas tree -- hipsters can now adorn their bushy beards with baubles too. Beard Baubles are the brainchild of Grey London creative team Mike Kennedy and Pauline Ashford, who came up with the idea and the product for the agency's holiday card. The packs of baubles are sold online (a pack of 12, in "Christmassy colors," costs seven British pounds, about $11, plus postage) with all profits going to Beardseason.com, a charity initiative encouraging people to grow beards to raise awareness about Melanoma.
After Grey put the photos on its social media channels early this week, the idea went viral, with the Daily Mail and New York Magazine writing about it and even suggesting copycat ideas for the now sold-out accessories. The agency has since been inundated with requests -- despite the fact that the card doesn't go out till Monday.
In between takes, filming a piece on beard baubles for Channel 5 News, Grey London's PR spokesman Ollie Dearn told Creativity: "There's already been huge levels of interest, primarily from Brits, but also Aussies, Americans, Kiwis, Germans, French. None from the Nordics (yet), surprisingly."
