Greyhound Brings Its Brand Up to Date by Giving Old Ads an Internet-Era Twist

Latest Spots Use Footage From Historical Campaigns

Greyhound is a classic American brand, but to remind people that it's moved with the times, it's come up with a way to update its advertising while paying homage to its past campaigns.

Its latest spots, by Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners, juxtapose some very modern technologies -- like ad skipping, internet trolls and (seen here) live streaming -- with footage from some of its older advertising campaigns. So, for example, an older ad of a grandma and daughter having an intense phone conversation becomes a discussion of whether Gran will be "live, live" or "Facebook, live" at the forthcoming wedding.

The campaign, running on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, aims to communicate that Greyhound now offers up-to-date services like mobile tickets and Wi-Fi on the bus. While it's clearly targeted at a younger audience, older viewers might enjoy the "historic" footage of ads from the '70s and '80s.
