A Devoted Dad Is Way More Than He Seems in This Touching Ad With a Twist

Grupo Gay de Bahia Delivers a Real-Life Story for Brazilian Father's Day

Yesterday (Aug.13) was Brazilian Father's Day, and to mark it, LGBT rights group Grupo Gay de Bahia made a moving ad with a surprising twist.

The commercial, by agency Propeg, portrays the real-life story of Cézar Sant'Anna, a father who is celebrating the date with his son. A little boy narrates the ad, discussing how special his father is -- strong, funny, etc. -- as we see footage of their daily life, all set to a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors."

His dad does everything with him, taking him to ride a bike or on a fairground ride, cooking with him, teaching him the piano. "When i grow up, I want to be just like you," the boy says. As far as that goes, it's a sweet ad, but the surprise comes at the end, when the spot reveals that Cezar was originally Beatriz, the woman who gave birth to the child. The ad ends with a short explanation about how she transitioned, and that this is her first Father's Day with her son.

The real father and son played themselves in the ad, and Rafael Damy of Vapt Movies brought a sensitive touch to the direction.
