While other brands are using social media to second guess what gifts people want (WalMart with Facebook in its Shopycat app and Kotex with Pinterest) Israeli department store Hamashbir Lazarchan and McCann Digital Israel went for a more direct approach to holiday gifting - a telephone call center. It invited shoppers to enter their loved ones' details on a website, then got a call center to phone them anonymously and find out what they wanted. It then sent the gift-givers the details, together with coupons for the desired items. The campaign resulted in 100,000 visits to the website, and gifts for 2572 people.
