Harvey Nichols Gives British Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn a Makeover (Kind Of)

Store Teamed Up With Artist Alison Jackson for Lookalike Spoof Campaign

One of the delights of Harvey Nichols' recent campaigns from Adam&Eve/DDB London is that they are never quite what you are expecting -- from using in-store CCTV footage to create a funny ad, to giving Barack Obama an animated makeover.

For a new PR-led campaign, the agency homed in on U.K. Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, a hardline socialist who's known for being somewhat sartorially challenged. It worked with Alison Jackson, a British artist who's well known for her funny "lookalike" work (which has appeared in other advertising, including an iconic Schweppes campaign from the early 2000s) to create images of a Corbyn doppleganger shopping at its new Menswear destination in its flagship London store. Corbyn (who was recently taunted by Prime Minister David Cameron to "wear a proper suit" ) is pictured getting a haircut with a nice glass of champagne, and then dressed nattily in Dior Homme glasses, Dries Van Noten pants and Lanvin shoes as he exits the store. The images appeared in a story in the Mail on Sunday this weekend.

Ben Tollett, executive creative director at Adam&Eve/DDB, commented in a statement: "David Cameron thought Jeremy Corbyn should get a proper suit and do up his tie. We thought the new Menswear Destination at Harvey Nichols was the perfect place for Jeremy to do it."
