A Real Honda Races a Virtual One in a Mixed Reality Race With Forza Motorsport

Things Just Got Really Futuristic on the Real-World Race Track

If you pit a real Honda against a video game Honda, which one would win? To promote its Civic Type R vehicle, Honda teamed with Microsoft video game "Forza Motorsport 7" to find out, in a mixed reality race between an actual 2018 Civic Type R and a virtual one.

Pro IndyCar driver Graham Rahal went head-to-head with pro gamer Peter Jeakins in the unconventional face-off conceived out of RPA. It saw Jeakins taking the wheel at Microsoft's Turn 10 Studios in Seattle, where he made his best lap time on the Road Atlanta race track in the video game. Rahal then got his turn on the real Road Atlanta track in Georgia, driving a Civic with a mixed-reality windshield that allowed him to see Jeakins' moves, in real-time, from the game.

You'll have to watch to see who won, but let's just say that Honda scored.

The automaker broadcast the video on its Facebook page, while both racers promoted it through their social channels.
