In honor of the 30th anniversary of Lionel Richie's solo career, Barcelona-based collective Hungry Castle has launched a Richie-inspired art project: Make Lionel Bigger.
Hungry Castle aims to raise $30,000 on Kickstarter to fund a giant sculpture of Richie's head to be placed in his hometown of Tuskegee, Alabama. (The sculpture idea was inspired by the video of Hello, in which a blind student makes a sculpture of Richie's head). First of all, creatives Dave Glass and Killian Cooper have created a smaller version of the laser-cut sculpture, designed to hold a seven inch vinyl record, but want to make it into a public art installation that will eventually hold a giant spinning record. The idea is that people will be able to enter the sculpture, pick up a phone and hear Richie croon "Hello".
Those who help fund the project get their own original piece of Lionel art; a $10 donation gets you a postcard, $35 a piece of wall art, $100 a mini sculpture and $1000 your name on the giant sculpture. And it seems Mr Richie himself has even committed to the cause, donating $100 to the project.
