A Teen Party Goes Horribly Wrong in Ikea's Melodramatic Ad for a Pendant Lamp

Latest Realistic Tale of Modern Swedish Life Promotes a Pendant Lamp

It's a tale as old as time--teen has party while parents are out, and party goes horribly wrong when uninvited guests arrive and start to trash the place.

Except this time, Ikea has put an Ikea-esque twist on the story, in its latest "Where Life Happens" spot from Sweden, another gritty real-life scenario about families that aren't advertising-world perfect.

In this one, the teenager calls his parents, and they arrive home and switch on the lights, at which point the room lights up via a large Ikea pendant lamp, the product unobtrusively promoted in the spot. The gatecrashers slink out, embarrassed, and peace is restored.

Bacon's Martin Werner once again directed the ad for Akestam Holst. The pairing has done a great job creating the smart and subtle campaign, which has so far focused on single moms, divorced parents and angry teenagers.
