'What Lives Inside' Unleashes a Menagerie of Consumer-Created Creatures for Intel/Dell

Trailer for Pereira & O'Dell's Latest Social Film Brings Your Ideas to Life

Editor's Pick

Of all the social films Pereira & O'Dell has created for Intel, this may be the most inspiring yet. The trailer for Intel/Dell's "What Lives Inside" is out, and so far, it reminds us of all those childhood feel-good films like "E.T." or "Toy Story" that show you how important it is to "believe."

The effort, which was announced in January, is directed by Academy Award-winning VFX artist/AD/director Robert Stromberg ("Maleficent") and stars Colin Hanks, Catherine O'Hara and Oscar winner JK Simmons ("Whiplash") in a tale about a lost son played by Mr. Hanks, Taylor, and his departed father (Mr. Simmons), a famous puppeteer beloved for his creativity. Taylor discovers a lot more about his father -- and his supposed fictitious creations -- only after his dad's death.

Pereira & O'Dell's previous social films promoted Intel and Toshiba and recruited the audience to somehow be part of the story. This time, the campaign promotes Intel and Dell and asked creative types for creature character ideas for the film. Submissions were open through March 9, and the trailer here and these pics reveal some of the ideas that made it to screen.

James Newton ("Hunger Games," "Maleficent") created the score and the effort received more than 5,500 creature submissions. Aside from the characters seen in the trailer, all crafted entirely in CG by MPC LA, 144 more will appear in the final films. The first episode debuts March 25 exclusively on Hulu, with three more in the following weeks. Until then, see more about the campaign in this Behind the Scenes video.
