Jeep chose to set its Super Bowl ad to a cover of Woody Guthrie's classic track "This Land is Your Land," as it showed us stunning footage capturing (perhaps controversially, for such a patriotic song) not just the beauty of America, but countries around the world. The 90-second ad, by the Richards Group, ended with an environmental message: "The World Is a Gift. Play Responsibly."
While many social media commenators loved the ad, others have pointed out the similarities to the spot by The North Face and Mekanism, which broke in October last year, featuring a cover of the same song (by Morning Jacket -- Marc Scibilia covered the track for Jeep) and stunning cinematic footage of the U.S..
