In memory of writer/actor David Rakoff, who succumbed to a long-fought battle with cancer yesterday, we invite you to watch, or re-watch The New Tenants, the 2009 Academy Award-winning short directed by Joachim Back and produced out of Park Pictures. Rakoff wrote the screen adaptation and also plays a lead role in the film--the breadth of his talent and wit apparent throughout. He was best known for his sometimes biting, often self-deprecating essays for publications like The New York Times, Slate, Salon and GQ, as well as his contributions to This American Life.
Rakoff was "one of my dearest friends," says Park Pictures co-founder EP Jackie Kelman Bisbee. "We will all miss him terribly." Rakoff also appeared the Academy Award-winning film Capote, as well as the 2006 short film Intolerable, directed by Park Pictures' Alison Maclean, in which he appears as a "diabolical casting director."
