Helen Mirren Narrates Film Highlighting Loneliness at Christmas

John Lewis today released the charity-related side of its much-hyped 'Man in the Moon' Christmas campaign, a film highlighting its tie-up with charity Age U.K. that reveals some behind the scenes footage of the ad being filmed.

In the ad, arrated by Dame Helen Mirren and made by John Lewis for Age U.K., we see footage of elderly people at home interspersed with images from the "Man in the Moon" ad. As Ms. Mirren highlights the loneliness some older people may experience this Christmas and calls on viewers to help make a difference, the cameras pan back to reveal the film set for the ad. When filming finishes the day, however, the old man is left there sitting on his own on the bench. The words "Show someone they're loved this Christmas" appear on the screen.

John Lewis stores across the U.K. will be fundraising as well as pairing up with a local Age U.K. to support a Christmas lunch or social event. Every shop will also include a local Age U.K. as part of its Community Matters charity initiative, and 25% of the sale of every Man on the Moon mug and Christmas card will be donated to the charity.
