With the Oscars coming up on Sunday, and The Artist hotly tipped for best picture, UK creatives Jon Plackett and Jon Burkhart were inspired to create The Artistifier. The site will take any YouTube video clip of your choosing and convert it into an silent black and white movie in the style of The Artist, complete with spaces for you to add your own speech captions. (The site already features some hilarious mashups, including one of The Artist's Oscar rival The Descendants) You can share your Oscar-worthy finished product via social media.
Plackett, who is senior creative at BETC London, created the site as a side project with Burkhart, who works at Iris's social media content division, Urgent Genius. (Plackett previously created Slapometer, during the last UK election, as another side project). The Artistifier will feature in an Iris talk entitled Not So Allied Forces of Social TV Comedy at SXSW next month.
