Jose Cuervo's Crowdsourced Campaign Builds on People's Ignorance of Actual Meaning

For this Cinco de Mayo, Jose Cuervo and McCann New York asked fans to explain what the festival is all about -- and then got creative with their interpretations. As this video explains, many people don't know what Cinco de Mayo actually signifies. Back in April, they tapped Puerto Rican actor Luis Guzman to give his own far fetched version of the Cinco de Mayo story and invite fans to submit their own.

The video directed them to a microsite where they could click to tweet about their own stories with the hashtag #writeyourcinco. Some of the hilarious and fanciful interpretations can now be seen on the site and for Cinco de Mayo itself, the crowdsourced stories have inspired a mural, painted on a street in East L.A. by Tijuana street artist Charles Glaubitz.
