KFC's Edible Nail Polish Brings Whole New Meaning to 'Finger-Lickin' Good'

The Brand Held a 'Tasting' in Hong Kong This Week

There's a precedent for beauty products inspired by fast food: Last year Burger King Japan released a cologne designed to smell like flame-grilled beef patties. But the new effort from KFC in Hong Kong is arguably more bizarre.

Working with Ogilvy & Mather, KFC launched two edible nail polishes with flavors based on the brand's best-loved recipes: Original and Hot & Spicy.

As Ogilvy explains in a release: "To use, consumers simply apply and dry like regular nail polish, and then lick -- " again and again and again." (Or not. And at the very least, not on your toes.)

KFC and Ogilvy worked with McCormick, which makes KFC's mix of 11 secret herbs and spices, to come up with the flavors, which are designed to hold their flavor and also look shiny like regular polish. The brand held a tasting in Hong Kong this week. Hong Kongers are being asked to choose a flavor to go into mass production.

There's also an online music video to promote KFC's polish, with a poppy '80s-sounding synthesizer tune. Fortunately, the stars of the music video keep the finger-lickin' to a minimum. Otherwise it all could have been a little much.

Brings a whole new meaning to finger-lickin' good.
