KLM Surprises Airport Travelers With Reclining Seat Stunt

Airline Challenges People to Relax in Amsterdam's Schipol

Editor's Pick

KLM surprised customers at Amsterdram's Schipol Airport with a stunt in which it placed one of its reclining flatbed seats in the middle of a waiting area. Unsuspecting travelers who sat in it were then filmed reacting to their seat suddenly sprouting a headrest and tipping backwards; the first person to relax and let it fully recline (rather than leaping up in horror or running away) won two World Business Class tickets from the Dutch airline. The stunt, by DDB & Tribal Worldwide, Amsterdam, promotes KLM's new World Business Class seat, which was designed by Dutch designer Hella Jongerius and reclines into a fully-flat bed. KLM has turned footage from the stunt into an online game, designed by MediaMonks, in which players have to guess the reactions of the people who sat in the seat, with a chance to win two World Business Class tickets.
